World Contraception day (WHO)
26th September 2017
According to WHO (World Health Organisation), the promotion of family planning – and ensuring access to preferred contraceptive methods for women and couples – is essential to securing the well-being and autonomy of women, while supporting the health and development of communities. Allowing women to choose whether, when, and how many children to have achieves progress on global health goals. It also helps break the cycle of poverty, and puts families, communities, and countries on a stronger, more prosperous and sustainable path.
Note: More than 200 million women worldwide do not have adequate access to family planning services. According to Population Matters, improved access results in smaller families. Smaller families consume less and are more sustainable.
Worldwide, every 26 Sept.
